Gluten Free Friday: Soups for When You are Sick

It’s that time of year…yes, the time when EVERYONE gets sick.  Pat and I have been sick of the last week an a half (hence the lack of posting here on Food Marriage).  There were a couple days in a row where I was going to bed at 7pm.  I’m finally starting to recover, but sadly Pat is still fighting it.

Despite being sick, we’ve been sticking to the Gluten Free diet.  I’ve noticed some initial weight loss and Pat has noticed he is feeling more alert!  So far, so good!!  One of the toughest things for me this last week was not having much of a real appetite and wanting soup.
You would be surprised how hard it is to find a gluten free soup!!  A lot of soups have noodles in them which contain wheat products and gluten.  But even when you think you have just a vegetable and beef soup…be careful!!  Many products add flour to soups to thicken them!  Even a simple tomato soup can have gluten in it.  Be sure to just do a quick check on the soup can labels.
I recently found a line of organic soups by Wolfgang Puck at Giant, and some of the soups were gluten free.  So today I tried a gluten free Tomato Basil Bisque and it was sooooo good!  The flavor of the soup with the basil was delicious and it was perfect when I was looking for something to warm me up.  I will definitely be trying more of these soups in the future!
Have you tried any of the Wolfgang Puck Soups before?  What other gluten free soups do you recommend?  Do you have any tips for making stews and soups and home and how to thicken the broth without flour?
